Why Fallow Hill?

Fallow Hill is a home from home, where you will always feel welcome.  It is small and friendly, with only 7 boxes and so each client has maximum use of the facilities.  All horses at the yard are treated as part of the family and receive the same very best quality of care which we afford our own horses.   Owners are amazed at how quickly their horses settle and how calm they are at Fallow Hill.  Horses also benefit from being checked and having their forage topped up, late at night.

Late night forage top ups and checks

Many other yards give a large haynet when they stop work at 5 pm or even earlier in the darker months. This means that horses are often left with no forage at all for most of the night. At Fallow Hill horses are given haylage at regular intervals including late at night.

Consistent feeding programme throughout the year

Many yards see their horses lose weight in the winter and get fat during the summer. This never happens at Fallow hill. Horses at Fallow hill receive only the best quality haylage that is fed little and often so that horses maintain a good healthy weight throughout the winter. They are fed hard feed according to their individual needs. In the summer we are careful to graze the fields evenly so that horses never suddenly go out on grass that is too rich or lush. Also, when the grass starts to go off in late summer, horses are supplemented with haylage and never left in the fields getting hungry and cross.

Large Floodlit arena

The arena is much larger than would normally be found at other small  livery yards.  No booking of the arena is necessary, except when you have a lesson.  It is very rare that liveries do not have sole use of the riding arena whenever they come to ride.  There is a good selection of show jumps which include a variety of fillers, planks and style.

Friendly atomosphere

Fallow Hill  is a small and happy community and new people are always warmly welcomed.

Help and Advice

Help is always at hand from owner/manager Sally Bruce, whether you need a confidence boost, schooling or jumping lessons, or help and advice preparing for a competition, Sally helps clients get the best from their horses and themselves. She is especially successful with horses and clients who have contact issues and teaches an effective and kind method of working the horse into a soft, light contact and self carriage.

Turnout Summer

It is our policy to turn out horses throughout the year.  In good comfortable summer weather, horses enjoy 24 hour turnout but are brought in during adverse weather conditions.  We do not allow horses to be kept in 24 hours a day except if they are on box rest.  All horses are kept in the same routine regarding feeding times and turnout.

All weather turnout Winter

Muddy fields are lethal to horses.  There are countless stories of horses sustaining fatal leg fractures due to slipping on surface mud or sinking in deep mud, whilst playing.  Unfortunately Sally has had first hand experience of such tragedy in the past, which is why the horses at Fallow Hill are turned out in the all weather sand menage when conditions in the fields are considered dangerous.  The horses love the all weather turnout and are provided with ad-lib forage.  They play and roll in safety, and never stand waiting to come in like horses do in muddy fields.

Stables

The  livery stables are second to none.  Large airy loose boxes with a walkway in front and rug racks, fold down saddle racks and bridle racks outside each stable.  Each stable has automatic watering, Soft Stall rubber matting, ' tongue twister'  stable toys, and salt lick.  There is also a very large heated tack room with seating and tea and coffee making facilities.

Top Quality Products

At Fallow Hill Livery, only the best branded products are used.  We use Aquamax or Megazorb bedding which is dust free, extremely soft and comfortable, and highly absorbent in addition to Stable Soft  flooring system (which is 6 cm thick!).  Horses are fed to owners' specification and with the owners' preferred brands.  We are careful that feeds are guaranteed not to include animal products which is why our own preferred brand is Allen and Page. In addition we feed Dengie Alpha A original, Hi Fi or Hi Fi Light, depending on the horses nutritional requirements.   Our haylage supplier, is a premium quality supplier supplying top equestrian establishments throughout the country.  It is dust free but of the dry type, and can be fed just like hay without the 'heating' effect of some haylage. It is also ideal for horses whose digestion would normally be upset by wetter haylage.
